How to Make Incense Sticks:

  • Incense sticks are an excellent addition to your product line due to their simplicity in production and a wide array of captivating scents available at Voyageur Soap and Candle.

Ingredients and Tools:

  • Mixing Spoon
  • Dipropylene Glycol (DPG) - 28g or 1oz
  • Essential Oil or Fragrance of choice - 14g or 0.5oz
  • Up to 50 unscented incense sticks
  • Aluminium foil
  • Rubber gloves
  • Mixing jar
  • Baking tray
  • Rack for drying

Explanation of DPG:

  • DPG minimizes black smoke from burning incense sticks and helps infuse the fragrance into them.

Preparation:

  • Lay out unscented incense sticks on a large piece of aluminum foil.
  • Mix the DPG and Scent Combination together in glass measuring cup for ease of washing or mixing vessel of your choice.
  • Pour the mixture evenly over the Punk part of the incense sticks, ensuring they are fully coated.
  • Wrap the sticks tightly with aluminum foil to allow the scent mixture to fully impregnate the Punk.

Soaking:

  • Allow the wrapped sticks to soak for at least 48 hours within your aluminum foil to fully absorb the scent mixture.

48 Hours Later:

  • Unwrap the incense sticks that have been soaking for the past 48 hours.
  • Place a rack on a baking tray and lay out the sticks to dry evenly.

Drying Process:

  • The final product needs 2 days to 1 week to fully dry, depending on humidity and whether essential oil or fragrance used. Essential oils will dry faster.
  • If your work area has high humidity you can use a dehumidifier to expedite the drying process.

Final Product:

  • Once fully dried the incense sticks are ready to package for resale or gift giving and are ready for use.

Here's a guide on how to use incense sticks:

Preparation:

  • Ensure you have a suitable incense holder or burner. This can be a designated incense holder, a bowl filled with sand, or any fire-resistant surface.

Placement:

  • Insert the uncoated end of the incense stick into the holder, ensuring it stands upright and is secure.

Lighting the Incense:

  • Use a lighter or a match to ignite the coated end of the incense stick. Allow it to flame for a moment, then gently blow out the flame, leaving a
    glowing ember.

Enjoy the Fragrance:

  • As the incense stick smolders, it releases aromatic smoke. Enjoy the pleasant fragrance that fills the air.

Safety Tips:

  • Never leave burning incense unattended.
  • Keep it away from flammable materials and out of the reach of children and pets.
  • Ensure proper ventilation in the room.
  • Place the incense holder on a stable surface.

Extinguishing:

  • To extinguish the incense, gently tap the burning end on the holder or use a designated snuffer. Make sure the ember is completely out.

Storage:

  • Store unused incense sticks in a cool, dry place to preserve their fragrance.

Variety of Uses:

  • Use incense sticks for relaxation, meditation, or to create a pleasant atmosphere in your home.
  • Experiment with different scents to find the ones that suit your preferences.
