Blended Waxes – BW 923 Instructions

BW-923 is an all-natural specialty wax blend with soy, palm, and coconut for wax melts and tarts.  This wax blend is in a easy to use pastille format, is off-white, with a smooth and creamy appearance and formulated for a high fragrance load.

Molds: Wax Melt Containers, such as clamshells, should be clean and at ambient temperature. No pre-heating is necessary.

Dyes: The various dye blocks we carry work well with Blended Waxes – BW 923. When using dyes, heat the wax to ~180°F, add the dye, and mix until dissolved.

Fragrances: Recommended maximum scent load is 15%. It is recommended that after you melt your wax that you remove from heat and then add your fragrance, stirring gently for approximately 2 minutes to make sure fragrance is fully combined with the wax. If you are using a fragrance with a lower flash point, make an adjustment to your wax temperature as necessary.

Melting: Melt Blended Waxes – BW 923 to 180°F under gentle agitation to promote even heating and thorough mixing. Add any desired fragrance and dye, mixing well to incorporate. Allow the wax to cool to the 160°F - 180°F pour temperature.

Pouring:

  • Pour temperatures will vary according to mold type and size, fragrance(s), essentials oils, dye(s), and the wax tart effects you desire.
  • Different mold configurations result in various cooling rates. Cooling too quickly or too slowly can cause concaving and/or frosting. A recommended starting temperature is 160°F-170°F. Pour temperatures should be checked and confirmed according to seasonal changes and adjusted as necessary for the size/type of container using.
  • As the wax is being poured, it is typical for wax to solidify at first contact with the container. Blended Waxes – BW 923 should have a pour temperature high enough so that when the container is full, the initial solidified wax has re-melted. Please note–the temperature should not be so high that the liquid wax sits more than 30 minutes before starting to solidify.  Higher temperatures can also damage the plastic clamshell, if using.
  • Depending on the size and style of your mold a second pour may be required to have a smooth top/bottom.  If the candle has sunk down after the initial pour has set, then ensure there are no air pockets, heat up your wax again to approximately 5 degrees higher than your initial pour and do a second top up pour.

Tart/Melt Cooling: Cool undisturbed melts at an ambient temperature of 70° F (21.1°C). The molds should be about 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) apart to allow air circulation for even cooling.  Wax Melts should be allowed to sit undisturbed for 48 hours before test melting.

Storage: Packaged: Due to its low melt point it is important to keep wax stored in a cool dry location away from direct heat, sunlight and moisture.

I should have read reviews before make a purchase...

As others mentioned, too soft. According to the data sheet, it should take up to 15% fragrance load and because it was my first time so I only put 7% just in case. I gave it generous time to sett as well. However when I was unmolding the tablets it just kept flaking off. Can't recommend to someone want to use some mold. Although frosting was better than 494. That's the only one good part I can think of...

So far not impressed

I used the max fragrance load of 15% and the finished product is too soft, a little greasy. It doesn't release cleanly form a silicone mold or clamshell which is disappointing. I should have believed all the negative reviews and not the one good one!

The end product smells great and melts great in a wax burner, but it's a messy, unpleasant experience. I'll be trying the 494 wax next and trying to blend the two so this 45lb box isn't a colossal waste of money.

I may try backing down on the fragrance load to 12% to see if that helps, but I will say that the raw wax can be squished between my fingers, so that I'm not hopeful about either.

Not great

Not a great wax blend for melts. They ruined my silicone molds and did not come out nice at all. Very greasy to the touch, not a slick finish on the tops of the melts and they look chalky. I won't be buying this blend again. What a waste of money and time. I can't sell these to my customers.

Love this wax

This wax is fantastic. I found it was really easy to use, hold scents amazingly and it came out of my moods clean. I’ve tried a bunch of other tart waxes and they always leave a residue on my molds. I’ve used this for both clamshells and with silicon molds to make shapes, worked amazingly with both.

Not encouraging :-(

I want to delve into wax melts so I thought this wax blend would be the easy way to go. So very disappointed that it didn't "snap" out of the clamshells. Now I'm stuck with a bag of tart wax that I can't use. So very disappointed. It doesn't matter how well priced an item is if it doesn't work for its' intended purpose.
